Queens of the Stone Age have shared another new song off their upcoming album, In Times New Roman… On Wednesday, the band released “Paper Machete”.

Frontman Josh Homme discussed the track with Consequence, explaining the song’s connection to past QOTSA tracks like “Little Sister” and “Regular John”.

“There’s some classic us here… Like, that lead line that’s going through the song, that’s such quintessential Dean [Fertita] – it’s very him, the style and the way it’s played. And Troy [Van Leeuwen] was saying, ‘I’m going to do a lead that’s the exact tone as ‘Little Sister.’ I guess we call them cousins, like ‘Little Sister’ is related to ‘Paper Machete’ – and it’s also related to our first song, ‘Regular John,’ all the way back.”

In a recent interview with Revolver, Homme revealed a recent cancer battle that resulted in a successful surgery. He spoke about the difficulties he’s faced over the past few years, including the pandemic, the death of close friends, and his messy legal battle with ex-wife Brody Dalle of The Distillers.

“I never say it can’t get any worse,” Homme explained. “I never say that, and I wouldn’t advise it. But I do say it can get better. Cancer is just the cherry on top of an interesting time period, you know? I’m extremely thankful that I’ll get through this, and I’ll look back at this as something that’s f*cked up – but will have made me better. I’m cool with that. There’s a lot of stuff I want to do. And there’s a lot of people I want to do that with.”

He continued saying, “This has been the darkest four years of my life. But that’s OK, too. In the heartaches, my mistakes, these deaths, and my own physical things I’m dealing with – even though all that has occurred and smashed my old life to pieces, those pieces I’ve been able to build into a ship that’s about to launch. I will float into my new life from all those pieces.”

Queens of the Stone Age will release their first album in six years In Times New Roman… on Friday, June 16.
